Maximum dosage of local anesthetics
From WikiAnesthesia
Local anesthetics must be dosed appropriately to prevent local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST)
Local anesthetic | Without epinephrine | With epinephrine | |
---|---|---|---|
Bupivacaine* | 2.5 mg/kg | 3 mg/kg | |
Lidocaine | 5 mg/kg | 7 mg/kg | |
Ropivacaine | 3 mg/kg | -- |
* An easy way to remember bupivacaine (aka plain Marcaine) is to know that the patient's body weight is equivalent to the volume (in mL) of bupivacaine 0.25% that can be given. For example, for a 70kg patient, 70 mL of bupivacaine 0.25% is the maximum allowable dose.
