| The American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that residents participate in scholarly activities<ref>{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Anesthesiology|url=https://www.acgme.org/Portals/0/PFAssets/ProgramRequirements/040_Anesthesiology_2020_TCC.pdf?ver=2020-06-18-133042-890|url-status=live|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=|website=}}</ref>. The nature of the scholarly work can include discovery, integration, application, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge. In addition, a resident's scholarly work must be documented and ultimately needs to be certified by program directors. In an effort to promote scholarly activity, and facilitate documentation of such activity, WikiAnesthesia tracks contributions and calculates an overall Contribution Score for each member.
