MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a commonly performed non-invasive imaging modality that is most frequently done without anesthesia. However, patients who are sedated/intubated, claustrophobic, or unable to sit still (i.e. young age, intellectual disability) may require anesthesia to perform an MRI.
