- Rather than set process variables (O2 flow, agent percent), the user sets desired outcomes (end-tidal agent & oxygen). The EtC then selects fresh gas flows and agent concentration settings to achieve the desired outcomes. Typically EtC achieves this more quickly, with far fewer control inputs by user, and using less agent than using traditional methods [2]

- Type/Principle of operation- Dual circuit, pneumatically-driven bellows ventilator with tidal volume corrected for leaks, compliance, and fresh gas flow. Ascending ("standing") bellows compressed by driving gas creates inspiratory force. Driving gas is oxygen (can switch to pipeline air if pipeline oxygen pressure loss). Variable orifice flow sensors compensate for compliance losses and leaks from their location near the breathing circuit unidirectional valves. Accurate to very low tidal volumes in volume control mode (20-1500 mL). The "bag/vent" switch activates the mechanical ventilator in one step.
