Thank you for your interest in contributing to WikiAnesthesia! Your contributions are what allow this community to grow and flourish. Being a contributor will allow you to share your experience and knowledge with an international community of professional colleagues. Your contributions will help providers at the bedside and ultimately translate into improved patient care.

In addition to helping your professional colleagues, contributing to WikiAnesthesia can be counted as scholarly work. Such contributions can help satisfy academic requirements for graduation or promotion. This article reviews the ways that contributions to WikiAnesthesia can be recognized.

Resident Scholarly Activity

The American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that residents participate in scholarly activities[1]. The nature of the scholarly work can include discovery, integration, application, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge. In addition, a resident's scholarly work must be documented and ultimately needs to be certified by the program director. In an effort to promote scholarly activity, and facilitate documentation of such activity, WikiAnesthesia tracks contributions and calculates the Contribution Score for each member.

Tracking Contributions

  • WikiAnesthesia tracks each member's Contribution Score
  • The Contribution Score is a heuristic that reflects both 1) the number of pages edited and 2) the size of those edits.
  • In general, each contribution point translates into approximately 2 hours of editing time, but this can vary significantly depending upon the speed of the editor.

Scholarly Electives

Some residency programs offer "academic weeks" or scholarly electives. Contributing to WikiAnesthesia can potentially satisfy the requirements of these rotations. For documentation purposes, the following information can be provided:
